Denver Solar Co-op – Go Solar and Save as a Group

The City and County of Denver has partnered with Solar United Neighbors of Colorado to launch the second Denver Solar Co-op! Co-ops take advantage of the group’s bulk-purchasing power to get discounted pricing and a quality installation. Solar United Neighbors provides unbiased, installer-neutral support through each stage of the process of going solar. Their experienced team ensures you understand how solar works, how it can be financed, and how it can be installed on your home.

Join for the online launch of the Denver Solar Co-op on Monday, October 5th at 6 p.m.

Hear from local speakers and learn more about solar technology, the co-op process, and available financing options.

Opportunities for Denver Homes and Businesses to Go Solar

With our bright sunshine, Denver has excellent solar resources! Going solar is more affordable than ever, being a great way to save money on your energy bills, reduce air pollution, and help Denver’s climate goals.

  • Save money by going solar as a group with other Denver residents and business owners through a streamlined process.
  • The solar co-op is free to join with no obligation to install; and will include battery and EV charging options for its members! 2021 is the last year to claim a 22% federal solar tax credit, now is the last chance to take advantage of it!

If you do not own your home, don’t have a well-suited location or don’t want solar on your property, you can take advantage of Denver’s shared solar option, the Renewable Denver Community Solar Program. Starting in 2021, this program will support up to 1,000 households:

  • Residents can subscribe to solar hosted at community-locations such as rec centers and libraries in their neighborhood.
  • Income-qualified residents will save 10 percent or more on their monthly electric bills.
  • The Initiative includes a high-school internship program and paid energy job training opportunities for Denver residents.

Crime & Safety Update

Submitted by Andy Walvoord

On September 30, the office of Councilwoman Amanda Sawyer and the Denver Police Department held a virtual meeting (see link below) to discuss crime in DPD District 3 and specifically in the Hilltop and Crestmoor neighborhoods.  The meeting was precipitated by a murder which occurred near Crestmoor Park on the night of 9/27. Three people were involved in a multiple shooting; one of the three was killed, and the other two remain in the hospital. None of the three was a resident of Crestmoor, and they had no connection to the neighborhood. Denver Police believe that the location was randomly chosen, and there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood or its residents. Denver Police are also indicating that everyone involved in the shootings has been identified and has been, or will be, apprehended.
Generally, the rate violent crime has remained steady in the Hilltop neighborhood (which includes Crestmoor for reporting purposes) versus 2019 statistics. Property crime, in particular car burglaries and car theft, remains elevated over 2019 levels. DPD encourages everyone to be vigilant about cars parked on the street; in particular do not leave anything of value in such cars.
In other neighborhood news, both DPD and Denver Parks and Recreation have increased the number of patrols of Cranmer, Robinson and Crestmoor parks by officers and park rangers. The increase in patrols was in response to complaints of parties in the parks coupled with inconsiderate behavior directed at neighborhood residents and property. Police believe that instances are down substantially since kids have started school again as well as the usual reduction in activity as the weather gets colder.
