Guilty Verdict in Hit and Run of 10-year-old Walking Home from School

A Jefferson County jury found Jose Morales-Reyes, DOB: 8/5/69, guilty of four counts after running over a 10-year-old child walking home from school in Arvada. At the end of a week of trial, the jury found Morales-Reyes guilty of Leaving the Scene with Serious Bodily injury (SBI) (F4); Vehicular Assault Reckless- SBI (F5); Driving While Ability Impaired (M); and Reckless Driving (T2). They returned their verdict on August 21, 2020

On November 8, 2019 the little girl was walking home from school with her six-year-old sister. They were walking on the sidewalk at 58th and Carr in Arvada when Morales-Reyes drove up over the curb and crashed into the 10-year-old. 

The jury heard testimony that he continued along the curb for 65 feet and left the area. He then drove in a large circle, passing back by the crash scene before he ultimately returned and turned himself into police. 

The little girl suffered two broken legs, a broken arm, a concussion, a laceration on her stomach, and a grade 4 liver laceration. The six-year-old was not injured. 

Sentencing has been set for October 30, 2020. He could potentially face up to nine years in prison.
