By Ali Newcomb, Carson PTA President
Hello Neighbors –
Carson students began this unique school year from home, learning remotely while DPS worked on plans for a safe return to school. Happily that gradual return began this week, with teachers welcoming kindergartners into the classroom for the first time Wednesday morning and plans are in place for the gradual return of all remaining grades by late October. Some Carson families have chosen to continue with remote learning with Carson teachers through December.
Carson welcomed new leadership this year, as well. Principal, Mirriah Elliott, and Vice-Principal, Kerstin Rowe, have worked tirelessly to guide our community through a school year unlike any other. Both bring years of experience and true partnership perspective to their roles.
Although some of Carson’s most-loved programs and events—such as our annual Auction—have been put on hold during the current health crisis, the school community is committed to finding opportunity in adversity and continues planning and preparing new initiatives and outreach to enrich our students’ experiences. Each year, the Carson Elementary PTA raises money to help purchase supplies, assist in staffing, expand access to educational technology and to leverage critical resources that keep our children engaged and active in our community. With Carson’s primary fundraising event canceled this year, the PTA is focusing on creative fundraising alternatives to help address the myriad new funding needs that have arisen since the pandemic began.
At its heart, Carson is a neighborhood school and welcomes involvement from the Hilltop Community with open arms. There are many ways to get involved at Carson, including Carson’s Collaborative School Committee, which meets throughout the year. For more information, you can call Carson’s front office at (720) 424-9090 or check the school calendar for meeting dates. You can also help Carson reach its fundraising goals—*even if you don’t have a student at the school*—on purchases you already make at King Sooper’s and Amazon. For more ways to get involved, check out our Ways to Engage rundown.
We would love to hear from you! If you have questions or would like to learn more about the Carson community, you can visit our Carson PTA website or reach out to Carson PTA board member, Stephanie Chay.
