DENVER (+) — The record-breaking cold is affecting Coloradans in multiple ways.
“I hate it!” Said one bundled-up woman as she waited to catch a light rail train in Denver.
Done Plumbing and Heating was busy Wednesday helping customers with frozen pipes. The crew climbed down into the crawl space in one Aurora home and heated the pipe until it thawed.
“The tenant said that he hadn’t ran water in over 24 hours, and with a cold spell like this, that could definitely cause pipes to freeze,” Chris Duncan, with Done Plumbing and Heating, said.

Unfortunately, these kinds of temperatures can also send people to the local emergency department.
“The most common thing that we are seeing at this point in time is respiratory illnesses exacerbated by the cold air,” said Jason Carney, the director of emergency services at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver.
“It’s much more difficult to take a deep breath when the cold air is as extreme as it is right now, and that will often exacerbate young children with asthma or adults with COPD and makes it very difficult,” Carney said.
