A man was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison Wednesday for a child sex assault in Arvada.
Ronn Gregory Wyman, 63, has been convicted of multiple prior crimes, including second-degree murder in 1993, according to a Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office news release. A Denver jury found Wyman guilty of murder and he was sentenced to 28 years in prison. He completed his sentence and was released in November 2018.
On Jan. 12, 2020, Arvada officers responded to a thrift store on a report of a man groping a child, the release said. Wyman tried to leave the scene, but the victim’s mother stood in front of his car in a parking lot to keep him there until police arrived. In May, 2021, Wyman was found guilty, by a Jefferson County jury, of sexual assaulting the 11-year-old victim.
Prior to the 1993 murder conviction in Denver, Wyman had been arrested in California.
“Wyman has an extensive record of sexual offenses in California dating back to 1987 when he received three years of probation for indecent exposure in front of children,” according to the release. “A year later, he was sentenced to a year in jail for attempted kidnapping of a child.”
In 1991, Wyman was sentenced to 16 months in prison in California for indecent exposure.
“This case was just another in a long line of sexual offenses that the defendant has committed against vulnerable, young children,” said Senior Deputy DA Donna Billek, in the release. “With his background, this sentence was appropriate as the defendant has repeatedly made it clear that he can’t be safely managed in our community.”
