The Lakewood Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian traffic collision that occurred at about 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 9 at West 14th Avenue and Reed Street.
Stephen Tinoco, 79, was traveling west in the eastbound lane of West 14th Avenue in his electric wheelchair . A Ford Explorer was traveling east, into the glaring sun, and did not see Tinoco in the same lame. The driver hit Tinoco just west of Reed Street.
Tinoco was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Explorer is not suspected of any alcohol or drugs and is not being cited for any violations. Toxicology results for Tinoco are pending at this time.
