Savory food, craft brews and sweet treats - #lakewoodnews

People enjoyed a lot of a little something to eat on April 25 for the Golden Chamber of Commerce's third annual Taste of Golden event.Twenty-one eateries and breweries brought samples of their unique products to the American Mountaineering Center to participate in the event. Cuisine included everything from cheeseburgers and homemade green chili to bison meatballs and sea scallops -- plus some vegetarian dish options. People could wash it down with a large selection of ales and other craft beer to choose from. Golden Moon Distillery brought 10 different spirits for sampling. There were also quite a few sweet treats to enjoy.Gold Mine CupcakesGold Mine Cupcakes started in Janeen Johnson's kitchen four years ago. Since then, her husband, Walter, and daughter, Sara Rutter, joined in and the family opened shop in downtown Golden last year. All of the goodies are baked fresh each day. The bakery features more than 30 flavors of cupcakes, all of which are made from scratch."Let us make your day delicious," Rutter said.Snarf's SandwichesA little-known fact about Snarf's Sandwiches is how it got its name, said Holly Moran, one of the sandwich shop's marketing team members. It's called Snarf's, she said, because it's the owner's childhood nickname."Sandwiches are really his passion," Moran said.Owner Jimmy Seidel started Snarf's in Boulder, and the sandwich shop has been in Golden for about six years. This year, Snarf's is celebrating its 20th anniversary.Goozell Yogurt & CoffeePeople come to Goozell Yogurt & Coffee because they know they will be getting something different, said employee Sarah Fischer."Our product is delicious," she said. The coffee is imported from Turkey, and the yogurt has live, active cultures, so it's good for the digestive system. But people also like the friendly service, Fischer said."People love coming in and seeing our smiles."Briarwood Inn RestaurantThe Briarwood Inn Restaurant has been in Golden for 37 years, said owner Lisa Paterson."We're a dining tradition for people," she said.People dine at the restaurant for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays -- just about any type of celebration, Paterson said. The team is "very happy" to have Jeff Jones, the restaurant's executive chef who joined the staff about a year ago.Although still fine dining, "he brings a fresh perspective," Paterson said.
