Prospect Parks receives GOCO Grant - #lakewoodnews

Prospect Recreation and Park District received a $3 million grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) to support Prospect Park Recreation District's purchase of the Applewood Golf Course.

The grant is part of a community effort to protect the course from development by purchasing it.

On May 31, Jefferson County Commissioners voted in favor of a $1.1 million grant to help Prospect buy the course as well.

Coors, the owner of the course, has given Prospect Parks a letter of intent to sell the property to the district for $13.5 million. The letter states Prospect's intent to take over the remainder of Touchstone's (Applewood's current management company) lease and operate the course for the next 10 years.

Efforts to protect the golf course began in February 2015, when it was announced Coors was selling the course to Applewood West Holdings and a rezoning application had been filed for the development of around 400 homes.

Voters within the Prospect Park district approved two ballot measures in favor of the purchase.
